2017-2018, Gold and BronzeWorld Cheese Awards

In November 2017, Kozí Vŕšok won the world award, which has not been won by any other cheese producer in Slovakia. At the most prestigious cheese competition, the World Cheese Awards 2017, which took place in mid-November in London, we won a gold medal for a 6-month-ripened hard goat cheese and a bronze medal for a 3-month-ripened semi-hard goat cheese. While the bronze medal is the fourth in a row in the history of Kozie Vršek, we won the gold medal for the first time!

2016-2017, BronzeWorld Cheese Awards

At the most prestigious world competition, the World Cheese Awards 2016, which was held this time in San Sebastian, Spain (Basque Country), our 6-month-old goat cheese won a bronze medal. This time, more than 3,000 cheeses participated in the competition, which meant that Kozí Vršok faced not only huge international competition, but also a number of excellent Spanish cheeses with the support of local judges. The medal is a success and recognition of our work, as well as a guarantee of the first-class quality of our products.

Great Taste 2014

Kozí vršok was the only Slovak cheese producer to receive the Great Taste gold star in 2014. This award is also known as the gastronomic Oscar and has been awarded for more than 20 years by an expert jury, which has 400 members and evaluates around 10,000 so-called products. blind tastings to focus only on the taste of the products. Among the judges you will find Michelin chefs, gastrocritics and other gastronomy experts. Great Taste is highly valued abroad and is considered a guarantee of first-class quality.

2013, BronzeWorld Cheese Awards

The World Cheese Awards 2013 bronze medal for Kozí Vršok is the second in a row from this world’s most prestigious cheese competition, which took place at the end of November in Birmingham, England. This time, the Slovaks came to Birmingham with a 12-month cheese, which won a bronze medal in the category of semi-hard matured goat cheeses. 2,777 cheese samples marked only by numbers without any identifying marks were scrutinized by more than 250 cheese experts from around the world.

The World Cheese Awards 2013 bronze medal for Kozí Vršok is the second in a row from this world’s most prestigious cheese competition, which took place at the end of November in Birmingham, England.

Slovak cheese Kozí Vŕšok once again confirmed its leading position among the world’s cheesemaking elite, despite the fact that the company Leonteus only started producing cheese in 2011.

2,777 cheese samples marked only by numbers without any identifying marks were scrutinized by more than 250 cheese experts from around the world. Each of them had to sensory evaluate an average of about 50 cheese samples in a smaller group, using almost all senses to the full.

This time, the Slovaks came to Birmingham with a 12-month cheese, which won a bronze medal in the category of semi-hard matured goat cheeses. Last year, 6-month-old goat’s cheese won the bronze medal. This year’s absolute winner, for the first time in the 20-year history of the competition, was a cheese from Germany – Montagnolo Affiné.

“When you already have bronze, you also think about gold, but in such global competition it is extremely difficult, so another bronze is also a huge success,” said the owners of Leonteus company Martin Gračka and Ján Morava. According to them, this year’s award also belongs to all the employees who participate in the production of cheese in the modern cheese factory Kozí Vřšok in Ivachnova.

One-year ripening goat cheese is a rare rarity in Slovakia, also because after its production, it must be properly stored in the ripening room for 12 months and, above all, carefully treated. Perfectly matured cheese can be recognized by its fragile, almost crumbly structure, as we know, for example, with Italian Parmesan cheese. However, the most important thing is the smell and taste. While young ripening cheeses are less pronounced in taste, a 6 or 12 month old goat cheese develops a unique set of flavors starting with delicate citrus, nuts and ending with a tangy spiciness. It’s a real treat.

WORLD CHEESE AWARDS is the largest and most respected cheese evaluation competition in the world with more than 20 years of tradition. This year, the competition recorded a record number of competing cheeses in the number of 2781 pieces brought from more than 30 countries from all over the world. At this prestigious competition, the Slovak cheese Kozí Vŕšok won a bronze medal in the category of semi-hard ripening goat cheeses and thus became one of the world’s elite cheeses.
